I might’ve been inspired to pick more fights if Outlaws’ combat was fun. In a firefight, aiming Kay’s blaster felt stiff and overly reliant on aim assist (I played on controller). Nailing headshots was easy to the point of boring, and Stormtroopers made no attempt to take cover for flank Kay. They mostly just stood still next to one of a dozen explosive barrels on every battlefield.

News of the Star Wars Outlaws release was leaked by Ubisoft Japan’s YouTube premiere page (via the Gematsu Twitter/X account), with a story trailer released later the same day confirming the date. The game’s tentative release date appeared during the Xbox Showcase, but sources close to Kotaku said Ubisoft wanted to release Star Wars Outlaws during the current fiscal year.
Massive does deserve praise for the game’s accessibility options, which are so numerous as to be borderline overwhelming (thankfully, they come with some presets). The “difficulty” setting is really just a gameplay preset of dials for elements such as enemy health and combat intensity. Each preset lists off the specific options it changes, so you can use them as starting points and then tweak individual settings. It allows any player to tailor huge aspects of the game to their liking so that the experience is right for them, which should just be an industry norm at this point. The aforementioned QTE for eating snacks can be turned off, for example. And regardless of one’s point of view on the notorious “yellow paint” wayfinding markers, there are options to disable them entirely, or to change their color and opacity so that they’re still visible but more understated.
What I think the continual march of the genre has made clear, though, is that “living” anywhere is often a repetition of boring daily tasks: going to work, doing the laundry, cooking dinner. I don’t think I want to be “immersed” (whatever that means) in an open world anymore; I want to have a nice, tailored experience that lets me do something new and fresh. I think if Massive had built a tighter, more focused adventure and stepped away from the current model of open-world games, the studio would have made a defining Star Wars game. The elements of something great are all here. As it is now, the result is a game that tries to do so much that it simply doesn’t have the time, energy, or resources to fully succeed at any of it.
Star Wars Outlaws takes place in a time of civil unrest, where bandits are thriving. Enter Kay Vess and her furry sidekick, Nix. From the gameplay reveal, we can see Kay using stealth mechanics to creep around a guarded facility. She punches one guard in the face, but as things heat up, Kay can send out Nix to attack cards or interact with controls.

Before Game 5, Meek Mill performed his song “Dreams and Nightmares” and rode with the Phillie Phanatic on an ATV. Philadelphia native Jazmine Sullivan performed the national anthem and Brad Lidge threw the ceremonial first pitch to Carlos Ruiz. Noah Syndergaard started for the Phillies and Justin Verlander started for the Astros. The Phillies donned powder blue throwback uniforms from the 1970s and 1980s while the Astros wore their orange jerseys.
Schiraldi got two quick strikes on the Mets’ third baseman, who had already driven in one run so far. However, with his team within one strike of that elusive championship, he could not finish the job as Knight singled to left-center. Carter scored from second standing up and the speedy Mitchell advanced to third. Finally, McNamara decided his closer had seen enough and called for the veteran Stanley to try to close out the game. Some later speculated as to why Stanley, who had been warmed up by the time the tenth inning began, had not been called upon earlier instead of McNamara asking for a third inning out of Schiraldi, who had already blown the save in the eighth.

Anything can happen in baseball, but after two, it’s Los Angeles with complete control after two big wins. It’s not over until it’s over, and New York certainly isn’t ready to be done. They need at least two wins to force the series back to LA where Dodger fans will anxiously be waiting to see their squad in the final dance.
3. 1975: Red Sox 7, Reds 6 (Forced Game 7)Facing elimination, Boston rallied from a 6-3 deficit when Bernie Carbo launched a two-out, two-strike, three-run homer in the bottom of the eighth. The game then stretched to the 12th, when the Sox got out of a two-on, one-out jam before Carlton Fisk led off the bottom of the frame with a blast that just managed to stay fair as it cleared the Green Monster and ricocheted off the foul pole. Unfortunately for Boston, Cincinnati still took Game 7 and the Series.
